Award-winning Vancouver children’s musician Will Stroet to release new French CD
Presented by Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver
(Vancouver, B.C.) – Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver is proud to present a bilingual concert by Will Stroet, an award-winning children’s musician, on Saturday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m. at CBC Radio Canada. This concert is part of the Nouvelle Scène concert series for French-speaking audiences. Will Stroet and his Backyard Band will be launching Stroet’s new album “Ensemble, en cadence,” the French version of his award-winning album “Walk ‘n’ Roll.”
“We’re very excited to have Will Stroet perform this bilingual concert for kids,” says Sophie Robert of Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver. “We’re offering something new for young kids and their families to help promote French language-learning in a fun setting. And Will’s music is fresh, interactive and fun while still being educational. He has great appeal for the young and young-at-heart.”
As a former music teacher in Vancouver, Stroet easily connects with kids through high-energy, interactive and educational music in English and French. “Ensemble, en cadence” includes 12 action-packed songs in French about reading, walking safety, sports, vegetables, animals and personal hygiene. While the topics may seem typical of kids’ music, Stroet’s songwriting is clever, and refreshing with lively arrangements, appealing harmonies and, even some, face-melting electric guitar.
“Most kids today have a more sophisticated taste in music than they are given credit for. So, I use interesting rhythms, rhymes and wordplay in my songwriting to connect with kids and their parents. I try to write unique songs that deliver an educational message in a fun way,” says Stroet.
Stroet has won a 2011 Kids Music Awards, a West Coast Songwriters’ Award and received three nominations from the Western Canadian Music Awards for his English and French albums. He leads French music workshops for students and teachers who regularly use his music as language-learning tools. Stroet is also part of BC’s ArtStarts in Schools roster and has performed his highly entertaining show to enthusiastic young audiences at more than 500 festivals, schools and theatres in Canada.
Tickets for the February 18 concert at CBC Radio Canada – Espace 700 are $5 each for members and children under nine years old; $10 for non-members; and children one year and younger are free. Tickets are available at the door and can also be ordered online atlecentreculturel.com or by calling 604-736-9806.
