Concerts in BC, Alberta and Ontario this fall
(Vancouver, BC) – Award-winning Canadian children’s entertainer Will Stroet, the star of Will’s Jams on Kids’ CBC, will be releasing his new English and French albums, “Just Imagine” and “Imagine” this fall with family and school concerts across BC, Alberta and Ontario.
Stroet aims to inspire kids to be active, healthy and engaged in the world through interactive and educational music in English and French. Catchy and kinetic, Will and his Backyard Band perform a high-energy family show with fun actions and sing-along choruses. The “Just Imagine” concerts feature songs from Will’s new albums as well as past favourites.
Before making the leap to becoming a full-time children’s entertainer in 2009, Stroet taught French immersion music at Lord Tennyson Elementary school in Vancouver. Since 2005, he has performed more than 850 shows at festivals, theatres and schools across Canada and has released six other albums and a DVD of videos. “Will’s Jams” currently airs on Kids’ CBC weekday mornings, with nine more videos set to air this fall featuring songs from Will’s previous albums. This year, eight songs from “Just Imagine” will be made into videos for Kids’ CBC by Bowen Island’s talented husband-wife team, Cam and Kat Hayduk of Turtlebox Productions.
Kim Wilson, head of children’s programming at Kids’ CBC, had this to say about Stroet’s music: “There are a lot of kids’ musicians in this country, but I really feel like Will’s music stands out. As a former teacher, he really understands kids, so the music isn’t condescending but rather respectful, empowering, educational and celebratory.”
While Stroet’s previous albums were inspired by his students, his new albums—produced by Steve Dawson, a multiple Juno award-winning Canadian producer and musician— were inspired by his three-year-old daughter, Ella. Stroet, known for his catchy guitar riffs and funny and clever rhymes, aims to write music that is appealing to both kids and parents. The new albums have an eclectic mix of styles with folk, blues, rock, reggae and samba influences about topics that kids can relate to, such as colouring, trains, swimming, dancing and animals. Stroet’s daughter was the inspiration for “Ella’s Umbrella” and heartfelt “Daddy’s Lullaby” and “Daddy Daughter Day.” Stroet’s wife and manager, Kim, was the inspiration for “Mama Samba” about a mom who loves to dance and features a drum break with 12 Brazillian percussion instruments.
“I love being a dad. It’s been the best life-changing experience and has really changed how I write music for kids. Kids are blessed with an amazing sense of creativity that can so easily be lost in today’s fast-paced society. My new albums focus on kids’ use of creativity in play and in building an understanding of the world around them. I hope that my music sparks kids’ imaginations so they can create a future that is inspiring and fulfilling,” says Stroet.
The funk tune, “Chloe the Utterly Cool Cow,” teaches kids about how to be a good friend while “Colour It” inspires kids to make art. The spoof rock song “Trikers” is about a cool “gang” of preschoolers who cruise the neighbourhood on their tricycles sporting temporary tattoos. “Chuggada Choo” is a Johnny Cash-style blues rocker about a kid playing with his wooden train set, while the country tune “Stampede” is about a crazy bunch of stampeding farm animals. The reggae tune “Eat a Plum, Yum, Yum” will get kids excited about eating different types of fruit, while the pop tune “Dive in the Pool” may help kids overcome their fear of swimming. And the title track, “Just Imagine,” encourages kids to be creative and pursue their dreams.
Stroet has received a West Coast Songwriters Award, approval from the Parents’ Choice Awards and multiple nominations from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards and Sirius XM Indies for “Best Children’s Recording” or “Children’s Artist of the Year.”
