Highlights of 2013 & what’s ahead in 2014

There is no question 2013 was definitely a special year for Kim and me. Some projects we’d been working on for a long time finally came to fruition, and we had some special performing and personal highlights as well. Here are the top five highlights:

The debut of “Will_DSC5675’s Jams” on Kids CBC. These fun videos featuring my music were co-produced with our friends at Turtlebox Productions and are airing three times a week on CBC nationwide (Mondays at 10:50 am; Wednesdays at 8:25 am; Fridays at 9:25 am). You can watch some episodes on Kids’ CBC’s website, the Kids’ CBC TV for Me app for iPad and check out more about the series at www.willsjams.ca.Signing

Recording and releasing my latest album, “Just Imagine,” and the French version “Imagine.” I had the opportunity to work with one of my favourite Canadian musicians and producers Steve Dawson. The release of the albums were accompanied by tours with the Backyard Band in BC, Alberta and Ontario.

Joining the Board of Directors at ArtStarts. ArtStarts in Schools is an organization that brings the arts to tens of thousands of kids across the province of BC each year. The organization has long been close to my heart, and I am honoured to have been invited to join their board of directors. I’ve also been selected to showcase with the BackyardBand this February and am looking forward to presenting a workshop on tips for artists touring in schools.

Leading my music workshop at ArtStarts

Being nominated for a 4th Western Canadian Music Award for “Best Children’s Recording” for “Ensemble, en cadence” and  a 2nd Canadian Independent Music Award (Sirius XM Indies) for “Children’s Artist of the Year.”

Peforming 185 shows! This was my second busiest year ever. Some highlights include playing at Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg, The Banff Centre, the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival and my first  performances in Ontario!

2014 is shaping up to be an incredible year as well. Each year we have projects we know are coming up, but part of the adventure when you work for yourself is the unknown… Here are some highlights we are looking forward to:

My 1000th children’s music performance. When I started performing for kids at the end of 2005 while teaching, it was a fun experiment. I never thought it would become a a career. Well, before the end of my 9th year singing for kids I will play my 1000th show! It will most likely happen in the fall, and we might do something special for it (if Kim has time). I’ll keep you posted.

Headlining a number of International Children’s Festivals. This year will mark the first time we’ve headlined at the Surrey International Children’s Festival, Winnipeg Kidfest and the PotashCorp Chidren’s Festival of Saskatchewan. Children’s festival performances are always some of my favourite shows and I’m looking to meeting some new fans in other parts of the country.

“Will’s Jams” series 2 and 3 on Kids’ CBC. We continue to work with Turtlebox Productions and CBC to produce new episodes of “Will’s Jams.” Series 2 is already in rotation and by sometime this summer of fall you can expect to see nine new episodes in this next series featuring songs from my new album “Just Imagine.”

More Canadian touring. In 2014 the band and I will be performing in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario! This country is very big, touring is not always easy, so it’s a good thing I love doing it! Hope to see many of you in one of these provinces this year. Check my calendar for upcoming shows.

The unknown… I’m sure there will be some surprises this year but I’ll have to let you know about those as they come up.

I want to wish a very happy 2014 to all of you. Your support of me and my music is very much appreciated. To be able to do what you love is a blessing that I am thankful for each and every day.

Hope to see you soon!

Will
